The key word there, as highlighted by myself, is 'game', not 'wars'. You're not talking to game characters, you're talking to real people. Have some respect.

Talking

Anyone that groups with me needs to go through an interview process--it is always multiple choice.

A: I save the monk or die trying
B: I continue what I am doing--someone else will save the monk
C: I save myself--I have rez signet for themonk
D: I don't know--I guess I am a moron.

If that person answers with anything other than option A---I kickthem and put them on /ignore.

So far--the only ones that have answered correctly are the henchman.

Works for me, sorry just sick of putting up with it on every single online game i join

I'm pretty new to the game and am post searing as a level 8.3 Ranger/Ele but I've been lonely up to now as I can never seem to find a decent party.

I was just wondering if there were any guilds out there that have a nice sense of community and where people help each other out where they can?

It'd be nice to actually be able to talk to people on this game instead of just seeing male characters hitting on the girls in town =/...

I have played roughly 20 hours...and I have roughly 140 deaths. I sat down near a ressurect shrine then went afk...some mobs came and killed me roughly 100 times in the hour or so I was afk.

But what do you do if you have someone go Moron on you mid quest hmm? Playing Assention Trial (aka idiots sandbox) and have an awsome monk, joined us on TS and ran one just beautifully. We make it to the next trial and start it up. Everythings going good for about 15 minutes, then in what should've been an easy battle (read only 7 monsters) everyone dies. When questioned he says "I was letting my girlfriend play". We were all depending on him and he let us down, so of course as the group leader I boot him when we got back to the outpost. This resulted in much cussing and verbal abuse followed by a "please let me join again?"

I throw this out as an example that even seemingly good players have hiccups in judgement from time to time. Therefore you cannot set up a guarenteed no-morons group unless you've consistently played with every person on your team before. In which case, STOP SPAMMING FOR IT!, form a guild, and leave people who just want to play for fun with new people alone.

This is probably an all too familiar story, but I have to share.

I've already created and played one character through past ascention and the dragon's lair. I've also helped others ascend. I've spent a lot (A LOT) of time doing runs like Elona Reach, Thirsty River, etc. I'm not a noob. Or a moron.

But time and again, I get SO FRIGGIN TIRED of new players telling me to STFU as I'm trying to help them pass their tests for the first time. There are certain tricks (as I'm sure most of you are aware) for passing certain missions in a SMART way (picking off monsters from a distance, leaving the ghost back, etc) - hell, even skipping the stupid cutscenes when they roll around.

Example:

SCENE - Elona Reach.

The first gate has been opened, and we all file like ants across the desert to the "safe" zone. I draw a "line in the sand" and say in text chat "ok, now, let's try and pull a couple of minotaurs up at a time, and back up so we don't attract more".

The team pulls a few, kills them, then quickly dashes up the small ramp before the bridge. Before I can type out anything, there's a mad dash at the worm guarding the bridge, which of course aggroes about 3 bazillion minotaurs sitting in the little valley below.

Death and hilarity ensue.

We respawn back, and I admonish the team for being rash and not paying attention to what they are doing. I get a "oh, stfu, we're not stupid".

Re-enter mission.

This time, instead of rushing the bridge, they sit back and patiently aggro a couple minotaurs at a time, and clear out the valley area, so we can safely cross the bridge.

We get across, and I type, "ok, let's stop for a sec, let me explain the next part".

And I get in response "STFU" and "We know what we're doing".

While the whole team is getting slaughtered, I leave the mission, and head back to town.

Now, this would be funny, if it wasn't so friggin common. I've spent an entire day trying to play with different groups of players to get past the same friggin mission, that all manage to get themselves killed in the process. Now, I'm not going to say I'm perfect, I've made a goof or two in my time. But to endure over and over and over again the same mistakes, the same attitudes, the same responses, you tend to lose your patience.

So, if we all ever do meet online in Elona Reach, please excuse my short temper if I get upset after dying for the 200th time in the same spot in the same way.

Mimi I must say you are a much better person than I. I love to help people, but I draw the line at Elona Reach and Thirsty River. No way, no how am I going back there. Elona Reach took me about 30 tries with PUGs. I got lucky and did Thirsty River on the first try with 2 buddies & the rest randoms. As far as I am concerned I'll be happy if I never have to see the desert again.

Oh, I'm not doing it out of the kindness of my heart. I'm either trying to get a 2nd (or 3rd, or whatever) character past, along with everyone else. Or, I'm trying to unlock a skill that a boss might have on one of the challenges.

But that doesn't mean I have to put up with the noob's BS. I hate those missions just like everyone else, but if you want the goodies you have to put in the time. I'm just kind enough to stick through the mission to it's bloody inevitable conclusion even if I do manage to get a skill unlocked.

I haven't been able to convince myself to go back there even for skill captures... I suppose there might be some neat Ranger skills there, but it will take some counseling I think before I can do it.

Marksman's Wager is the big elite skill unlocked in Elona Reach or Thirsty River (I believe it's out in the salt flats as well on one of the bosses).

In fact, every boss in both of those missions is class specfic and has at least one elite skill to unlock.

The problem is getting a group of people to survive that long to unlock anything. I also hate the fact that I spend all that time to get to the boss, only to have it use "pin action" over and over, without using the elite skill so I can capture it.

Frustrating.

Navaros : "some people get mad at my spam. well sorry about that...but there is no efficient way to advertise that you have a party and what you need other than to spam that message until your party is full. unfortunately that is a drawback of the limited party-forming interface of Guild Wars"

There ya go buddy. As long as YOU are having a good time, who cares about the fact you're annoying 500 other people with your spam, right? After all, YOU have the right to a good time, nobody else does.
Nice going. This game definitely needs a TON more players like you do, then we can all stand in towns spamming
LFG NO MORONS!!! LFG NO MORONS!!! LFG NO N00BS!!! LFG DANGIT, I SAID NO MORONS!!!

I'm glad you realise what online gaming is all about.

Do people actually believe that by saying this, some player will think to himself, "gee, I would like to have joined that group but I can't because I am a moron and they don't accept morons."

Or do people think that by saying this, they are somehow elevating themselves and dismissing the possibility that they themselves are a moron, idiot, noob or whatever? Are they really trying to say "I am a superior player?" If so, saying it doesn't make it so, and it doesn't come across that way.

Instead, when I see someone yell out "LFG - no morons" I hear:

"I am an immature person. I have no concept of teamwork and no tact. I have an inflated ego. I blame other people for anything that doesn't go my way. I don't work well with others and will be an annoyance in the group."

I never invite people to groups who do this. I don't join groups who do this. In my opinion anyone who yells "LFG - no morons" has already disqualified themself ...
Guild i'm in, we're all morons, and idiots, and retards, usually drunk too, mostly illiterate as well (aw, come on, you didn't notice the bad spelling?)
but, because we don't take ourselves at all seriously, we have a good laugh, we joke, we take the p***, and, most of all, we have fun
Guild Wars is a game, sure, its good to have a good team, and to become the best in missions/PvP/whatever, but, this is secondary to actually enjoying what you are doing, and i think people who shout 'LFG - no noobs' 'LFG - no idiots', or anything else like this don't really care about the enjoyment of people other than themselves, and are usually the first people to just leave when a situation in a mission or an arena gets too bad for them (i know there are people who are forced to leave because of lag and lost connections, i'm not talking about them, i'm not trying to tar them with the same brush as the others, i'm on about the people who simply leave because they are not winning - the people who see the group is getting hammered, and then, just say 'bye' and dissapear, leaving you a player down, and making a bad situation you could have got out of impossible to escape)
anybody, thats my general two penneth on this subject, if nobody else wants it, can i have it back, i'm kinda broke at the moment...............

i run headlong into everything in every situation
and to make it all the more fun for everybody else on the team - I'M THE HEALER!

i posted a reply admitting that i'm an idiot and a retard, and a drunk, illiterate baboon, all at the same time, and now, here is peoples exhibit A

actually, in all seriousness, this tactic has prven succesful in player v monster quite a lot of times, i run into a group of monsters, running mending, and constantly hitting myself with healing breeze and anything else i can, meaning the monsters all charge at me and attack me

but, wait, whats that behind me? well, what do you know, its my guild mates, high level elementalists, necros, and mesmers who start pelting the monsters with everything they've got, meaning that the ettins and everything else are all on their backs before they realise that there is anything else there

granted, this tactic has a lot of potential to backfire horribly, but, 9 times out of 10, it works, and its hilarious when me and another guild member party with people who don't know us, just to see all the 'wtf..........' messages coming through when the healer starts thinking he's a bezerker

there is no reason that my spam should be any more annoying than the constant "LFG" spam done by everyone else. i don't do it to annoy people; i do it because it's the best and only way to stand a good chance at getting a semi-competent party when my friends and guild mates are not online.

to me, online gaming is all about winning . and that's great!

not only do i have a good time, but the other people in my party all have a good time too because if they have met the stated criteria prior to joining my party, we will surely win the mission.

instead of having to repeat it millions of times; which will so often happen with "random LFG" groups. repeating the same missions many, many times is not fun. i understand that, lots of peole understand that. having fun with random strangers is great; but if we are losing because they are playing stupidly, none of us are gonna be having any fun in that case.

plus i get commendations from many a' wary player who tell me that although they don't have time to join my party, they very much enjoy my sales pitch and that it has brightened their day because they know exactly why such a sales pitch is necessary in a game where gazillions of people suck at PVE

Guild Wars would indeed be a much more wonderful game if everyone was concerned about winning. as opposed to the current system in which it seems most of the players just keep on repeating the same PVE missions over and over again until they happen to get stuck into a group with enough competent players in it that they can leech off the competent players' success and thus get "passed-thru" the system and reach the end-game missions even though their total lack of PVE skill at the game does not justify them having gotten there
